Alison Mandaville, MFA, PhD, is a poet, translator, educator, and scholar of multi-ethnic literature, including poetry and comics. She is an Associate Professor in the English department at the California State University, Fresno where she coordinates program in English Education, Teacher credentialing, and Liberal Arts. She has published articles about her work on literature and women in Azerbaijan as well as translations of poetry, fiction, and memoir from Azerbaijani to English, which have appeared in World Literature Today, Two Lines, and Shadows and Echoes. Her own poetry has appeared in journals including Superstition Review, Fifth Wednesday, and Skidrow Penthouse. Together with colleague Shahla Naghiyeva, through the support of UNESCO and the Open Society Institute, she has co-translated and published a volume of poetry by women from the region of Azerbaijan spanning 800 years as well as several volumes of contemporary poetry and art by Azerbaijani women. She currently resides in both Fresno, California and Seattle, Washington.
