[Αnthologist] He was born in Bucharest. His first book “Păpuşarul şi alte insomnia” (The Puppeteer and Other Insomnias, Editura Vinea, 2003) won the first prize for literary debut in Romania, establishing him as an acclaimed and recognized new voice from his generation. He followed this debut with the poetry collection “Circul Domestic” (The Family Circus, Editura Cartéa Romaneasca, 2005), which was awarded the Romanian Academy Poetry Prize. His subsequent books were “Un anotimp în Berceni” (A Season in Berceni, Editura Cartier, 2009) and “Cobalt” (Casa de Editură Max Blecher, 2013). As a poet, other than dealing with subjects and themes drawn from everyday life, Claudiu Komartin also actively supports the poetry of his native country; he has published three anthologies of Romanian poetry, and keeps producing new works and translations on a regular basis. He coordinates the popular “Institutul Blecher” reading club in Bucharest since 2009 and serves as editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Poesis International and the publishing house Max Blecher since 2010. From 2011 to 2012, Claudiu Komartin participated in the “Writers in Residence” program organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute in London, where he published his long poem “Poem for Pop” in Long Poem magazine. Komartin has translated works by Matthew Sweeney, Stephen Watts, Denise Duhamel and Goran Simić from English to Romanian. He has also released Romanian translations of French works by Valéry Larbaud and Victor Segalen, as well as Romanian translations of works in Italian by Pier Paolo Pasolini, Cesare Pavese, Andrea Inglese, JMG Le Clézio, Tahar Ben Jelloun and Philippe Claudel, not to mention poetry collections by various contemporary European poets, such as Ivan Hristov, Glen Calleja and Gökçenur Ç. His poetry has been translated into many languages, such as English, German, French, Spanish, Swedish, Flemish, Slovene, Hungarian, Serbian, Turkish, Croatian, Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Japanese and Korean.
