Irene Solà Saez (b. 1990) is native of Malla. She has published the novel “El dics” (Ditches, publ. by L’Altra, won the Documenta 2017 award) and the poetry collection “Bèstia” (publ. by Galerada, won the Amadeu Oller prize for 2012), which was translated into English as “Beast” and published by Shearsman Books in 2017. Her poems have been featured in the anthologies “Mig segle se poesia catalana del 1968 – 2018” by Vicenç Altaió and Josep M. Sala-Valldaura, “Wretched strangers” by J.T. Welsch and Ágnes Lehóczky, and “33 poetes de menys de 30 anys” by Josep Pedrals. Her articles have appeared in the magazines Granta Magazine, The Lighthouse Literary Journal, Murder Magazine and Revista Poetari. She holds a Bachelor of Arts by the University of Barcelona and a Master’s Degree in Literature, Film and Audiovisual Media by the University of Sussex. In 2017, she was one of the artists featured in the “Barcelona Produccio – La Capella” program. In October 2018, she was resident writer at George Mason University, Commonwealth of Virginia, U.S.A. In 2015, she won a scholarship for young artists, and also a scholarship awarded by the City of Vic. In 2016, she received a grant for literary creation by the Catalan Department of Culture. Saez has appeared in poetry festivals in Catalonia, United Kingdom, Italy and the United States of America.
