Marina Skalova (1988) was born in Moscow and studied philosophy in Paris and Berlin. She settled in Switzerland in 2013 and studied at the Bern University of the Arts. Her poetry book “Atemnot (Souffle court)” (Shortness of breath) won the Vocation en Poésie prize in 2016. She has also published the poetry books “Amarres” (Moorings, publ. by L’Âge d’Homme, 2017) and “Exploration du Flux” (Exploration of the flow, publ. by Seuil, 2018). She served as playwright for the POCHE/GVE theater in Geneva during the theatrical season of 2017-2018; her play “La chute des comètes et des cosmonauts” (The fall of comets and cosmonauts, publ. by L’Arche, 2019) was also performed on stage during the same period. Her art approaches various forms and genres – poetry, prose and theatre – with an aim to contemplate exile, foreignness, the transcendence of borders and their portrayal on the body. She is also a literary translator with a particular interest in the process of transition from one language to another.
