Tobias Roth (1985) is a Munich-based poet, translator and literature scholar. In 2010, he was awarded a fellowship by the Literarisches Colloquium Berlin (LCB). He was also the recipient of the Wolfgang Weyrauch Promotion Prize for 2013 and the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize for 2015. He completed his doctoral thesis on Italian Renaissance in 2017. His poetry collection Aus Waben (From the Honeycombs) and his essay book Tradition. Gänge um das Füllhorn (Tradition: Journeys around Cornucopia) were both released in 2013 by Verlagshaus Berlin. Roth translated from Latin the poetry collection Baiae by renaissance poet Giovanni Pontano (publ. by Verlagshaus Berlin, 2016). In 2017, he published the collection of poems Lob der mechanischen Ente (In Praise of the Mechanical Mallard, publ. by SuKuLTuR) and also Voltaire’s tragic play Fanaticism, or Mahomet the Prophet, in Roth’s own translation (publ. by Das Kulturelle Gedächtnis). His poetry book Grabungsplan (Excavation Plan) was released in 2018, once again by Verlagshaus Berlin. His poems “Variant Crimson” and “The Similar” were originally included in Aus Waben; “Essay on Thorns”; “Niche for Prayer” and “Act of Declaration” were first published in Gradungsplan.
