Laia Malo (Laia Martinez i Lopez, b. 1984) is native of Catalonia. She is poet and musician, and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Translation and Interpretation by the University of Barcelona. She has so far published five volumes of poetry: “L’ abc de Laia Martinez i Lopez” (publ. by Documenta Balear, 2009), “L’estiu del tonight tonight” (The summer of tonight tonight, publ. by El Gall, 2011, won the Art Jove de Poesia prize), “Cançó amb esgarrip i dos poems” (Song with howl and two poems, publ. by Lleonard Muntaner, 2015), “Afollada” (Foliated, publ. by LaBreu, 2016) and “Venus Volta” (publ. by Lleonard Muntaner, 2018). She translated (from Russian to Catalan) the book “Del troncs d’oliveres velles” (From the trunks of old olive trees) by Max Voloshin (publ. by Lleonard Muntaner, 2013) and the anthology of Russian poetry “7516 Km. Un Puente entre Mallorca y Kemerovo” (7516 Km. A bridge between Mallorca and Kemerovo, publ. by IEB, 2015). In 2019, she published her own translation of Patti Smith’s “Auguries of innocence” (publ. by LaBreu). Malo engages in experiments through the fusion of various art genres, forms and styles, particularly through the electronic music of her band duo Jansky, which has released three music albums and played in major international festivals. In 2018, duo Jansky won the SUNS Europe award for best music group in a minoritized language.
