Filipa Leal (Porto, Portugal, 1979) is a Portuguese poet, journalist and screenwriter. Graduated in Journalism from the University of Westminster (London), Master in Portuguese and Brazilian Studies from the Faculty of Arts of Porto. She has published 10 books, the most recent Matches and Metal on Imitation of Human Being (ed. Assírio & Alvim, 2019). She published her first book in 2003, followed by titles such as The Liquid City (ed. Deriva - edited in Spain by ed. Sequitur), Adília Lopes Lopes (não-edições) or Come on Thursday (ed. Assírio& Alvim). In Colombia, publisher Tragaluz published the first anthology of poems from her various books, in a translation by Pedro Rapoula and Jerónimo Pizarro: En los días tristes no se habla de aves/ On sad days there is no talk of birds. In the same publisher, she signs the prologue to the anthology of Adília Lopes' work. In 2014, she wrote with director Patrícia Sequeira the feature film Game of Checkers (Golden Aphrodite Award for Best Screenplay at the Cyprus Film Festival (2016) and Best Screenplay Award at the Copenhagen International Monthly Film Festival. (2017) Author and screenwriter for the television series Women Like These (2016-2017, RTP1). She worked in radio, print and television (highlighting her collaboration on RTP2's Literature Here program, (SPA Award for Best Television Program, Entertainment, 2017). At the moment, she presents, with Pedro Lamares, the weekly literature program Nothing Will Be Like Dante, on RTP2, for which she also selects texts and does the readings.
