Anna Gual (b. 1986) was raised in Vilafrance del Penedès. The publishing house LaBreu discovered her through her blog No caic, em tiro, which was awarded as best Catalan blog for 2012. When her debut poetry collection “Implosions” was published by LaBreu (2008), she was 22 years old. In 2012, she released the book “Passa-m’hi els dits” (Run your fingers through me, publ. by Átem Books), with illustrations by the Austrian artist Bianca Tscaikner. One year later, she won the Pare Colom prize for Mediterranean poetry for her collection “L’ésser solar” (The solar being, publ. by Lleonard Muntaner, 2013). Further pursuing her research on the limits of language, she published her third poetry book “Símbol 47” (publ. by LaBreu) in 2015. 2016 was the year in which she was awarded twice: she won the Bernat Vidal y Tomás prize for “Molsa” (Moss, publ. by AdiA), and also the Senyoriu Ausiàs March award for “El tubercle” (The tubercle, publ. by Editorial 3i4). These two books constitute the first and second parts of a trilogy, which concludes with 2019’s “Altres semideus” (Other semigods, publ. by LaBreu). She has been described as one of the most innovative young poetic voices in contemporary Catalan literature. She is involved in poetry festivals, mainly in Catalonia, and she has also travelled abroad as guest poet in international literary festivals and writers’ meetings. She has also taken part in poetry translation seminars in Croatia, Sardinia, United Kingdom and Russia. Her poems have been translated into English, French, Spanish, Galician, Russian, Croatian, Portuguese and Italian. Her personal website is at www.annagual.cat.
