Guillem Gavaldà (b. 1997) was raised in Cerdanyola del Vallès one bleak February, when his umbilical cord was severed and he was brought into this world faded, violently convulsing, as thin as a rake, barefooted and with the scratched and worn-out epilepsy of the millennium impressed on his brain. After completing his studies in classical literature at the University of Barcelona, he became obsessed with authors Blai Bonnet and Mercé Rodoreda. In 2016, he published his debut poetry collection “Fam bruta” (Brutal hunger, publ. by AdiA, LaBreu, Cafè Central), for which he won the Premi Francesc Garriga. In 2019, he was awarded the Miquel Bauçà de Felatnix prize for his sophomore collection “Brànquies” (publ. by AdiA). He participated in the Young Poets Meeting that took place in Istanbul, Turkey, and he has also appeared in poetry recitals all around Catalonia, Valencia and the Balearic Islands. Gavaldà’s poetry has been featured in literary journals in Miami and Mexico, and poems of his have been translated into Spanish and Turkish.
