Laurent Fels (1984) is member of the European Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters and holds a PhD in French Literature. Other than writing, he also teaches French literature at the Classical Lyceum of Echternach (Lycée Classique d’Echternach) and works as research associate at the research center “Ecritures” of the University of Lorraine. He is editor of the five-volume encyclopedia “Regards sur la poésie du XXe siècle” (Views of 20th Century Poetry) published by Presses Universitaires de Namur (University Press of Namur). The main themes in his poetry are death and post-poetic contemplations. Saint-John Perse once wrote “All poetry is ontology” (Toute poétique est une ontology); based on this view, poets must dedicate themselves to discovering the essence of all things by stripping off and accessing their inner core. In 2004, Fels founded the quarterly poetic review Cahiers de Poesie. In 2007, his work won the Grand Prix de Littérature of the National Academy of Metz.
