Ellen Deckwitz (1982) studied Dutch, philological and cultural sciences. She made her debut in 2011 with the poetry collection De steen vreest mij (The stone fears me), for which she won the C. Buddingh’ debut poet award. As a poet she has won several Dutch poetry slam competitions. She has also written textbooks for poets and essays on poetry. The poetry collections Hoi Feest (Hello, feast) and De blanke gave (The white gift) were released in 2012 and 2015 respectively. Together with Ingmar Heytze and Thomas Möhlmann, they published in 2019 poems on the TV series Game of Thrones: the book Game of Poems. Her most recent poetry collection, entitled Hogere natuurkunde (Superior Physics), for her grandmother in the Dutch Indies, was also released in 2019. Her multifaceted poetry is sometimes fairytale, sometimes realistic and sometimes even has a revealing tone.
