Janette Ayachi (1982 - ) is a Scottish-Algerian poet who has been published in over eighty literary journals and anthologies from presses such as Polygon, Seren, and Salt's 'The Best British Poetry of 2015’. She collaborates with artists and has been shortlisted for a few chewable accolades. After performing her poem about Amy Winehouse on the BBC Radio Scotland in 2016 she was invited to return as an Arts & Culture critic for a year. In 2017, she was commissioned to write a poem for BBC Radio 4 for a documentary Conversations on a Bench which was critically acclaimed. She has read across the U.K at various events and festivals and is the author of poetry pamphlets Pauses at Zebra Crossings and A Choir of Ghosts, also a children's chapter book The Mermaid, The Girl and The Gondola, illustrated by Fabio Perla. Ayachi is currently working on Lonerlust a nonfiction narrative about loneliness and travelling alone. Her first full poetry collection Hand Over Mouth Music was published by Pavilion (University of Liverpool Press) and it won The Saltire Poetry Book of the Year Award 2019.
