Bernard Wesseling (1978) writes poetry and prose. He made his debut at the age of twenty-five with the novel De favoriet (The Favorite). His first poetry collection was entitled Focus (2006, Focus), for which he was awarded as a debut poet with the prestigious C. Buddingh' Award. His second poetry collection, entitled Naar de daken (To the Roofs) was published in 2012. In 2016 he released his third poetry collection entitled & de dag ligt open als een ei in zijn gebroken schaal (& the day is open like an egg in its broken shell). Wesseling regularly participates in various festivals in Belgium and the Netherlands. His narrative poems are melancholy exercises to face reality.
